Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've witnessed the numerous challenges and hardships of working in the healthcare field, especially during these past trying years. Risking their lives for the well-being of their patients, they have risen to the occasion and carried the responsibility of caring for millions of people. HCCON will bring together you, an aspiring hero, along with these accomplished heroes, and give them a chance to speak about their experience in the healthcare field.
HCCON is a partnership between The Stemistry Project and Teens for Healthcare Frisco. Our panel of passionate healthcare speakers will be providing students with opportunities to learn about a variety of occupations in the medical field. Attendees will be able to hear from professors, physicians, and students specializing in Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Neurology, Surgery, Physician Assisting, Family and General Medicine, and more! This event will allow you to network with medical professionals from Stanford, USC, UPENN, NYU, and other top universities.
We hope that the Healthcare Corner Conference is a fulfilling, transformative experience that will inspire you to pursue your dreams of working in healthcare. Family and General Medicine: I believe most of us will encounter a family doctor at least once in our lives and Family doctor has an huge impact on our daily lives. Family medicine is a profession practiced by doctors to care for people of all ages, from birth to the end of life. Join us to learn about family physicians' commitment to society and learn more about family and general medicine!
Pharmacy: Pharmacy has always been a very important field of medicine in our lives, especially now. It's not just about drugs, it's also about clinical services. Interestingly, Coca-Cola was actually invented by a pharmacist named John Pemberton! If you're interested in learning more about Pharmacy, join our panelists and have more discussions!
Dentistry: When we have cavities, what are the other duties of a dentist besides helping us scale? To learn more, join the conversation with dentists and dentistry students as we discuss pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, etc!
Nursing: Not only do nurses need to take medical histories and prepare patients for treatment, but they also need to talk to and support patients. Nurses play an important role in the medical profession. To learn more, join our panel and discuss the role of nurses in health care, schooling to become a nurse, and more! .

DR. KATE ATKINSON
Family Medicine Physician; Private Practice in Western Massachusetts
Dr. Kate Atkinson's current medical practice is built on a Multidisciplinary model where primary care providers work alongside psychiatry, massage, nutrition, physical therapy, health coaches, social workers etc. As the medical director and business owner she runs the practice while also seeing patients fulltime. She is active in healthcare reform initiatives and a strong advocate of Medicare 4 All, and serves on various committees of the Massachusetts Medical Society including the Board of Trustees.

DR. COLLEEN A. WATSON
Clinical Assistant/Dentist; New York University College of Dentistry
Dr. Colleen A. Watson has worked in multiple capacities in Dentistry including private practice, public health, geriatrics, and now dental education. In 2018, she became the first woman of color to earn the position of Group Practice Director at New York University College of Dentistry. In this position, not only can she partake in patient care, but she is also able to guide aspiring dentists to realize their goals and serve their communities.
DR. LISA KROON
Professor and Chair of Department of Clinical Pharmacy; UCSF School of Pharmacy

Dr. Lisa Kroon has been a member of the UCSF faculty since 1996. She practices at the UCSF Health Adult Diabetes Clinic and Diabetes Teaching Center, where she cares for people with diabetes and chronic illnesses. Dr. Kroon co-directs the UCSF Fontana Tobacco Treatment Center where she has been a smoking cessation provider for over 15 years. Her current research include evaluating the impact of pharmacist provider status and expanded scope of practice, diabetes therapeutics, tobacco cessation, and innovative practice models in the ambulatory and community pharmacy setting.
DR. CARYN SIEGEL FINLEY
Pediatric Dentist; NY Kids Dentistry and Orthodontics
Dr. Siegel’s training has given her experience in all aspects of pediatric dental care, including treatment of infants and patients who are medically compromised or developmentally disabled. During her time at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine, she gained a huge amount of experience treating patients with craniofacial anomalies, cleft lip and palate and oral trauma in addition to routine dental care.
DR. KAREN L. BRAVO
Clinical Assistant Professor; UTA School of Nursing - Arlington, TX
Dr. Bravo has spent over 40 years in nursing, including nursing education at colleges and universities. Started a Home Dialysis Company in DFW which expanded nationally. Has worked in cardiac units, medical-surgical units, and psychiatric units. Earned a BSN at Baylor, a MSN in Nursing Administration at UTA, and a PhD in General Psychology with an Emphasis in Integrating Technology, Learning and Psychology. Currently teach Health Policy, Legal Aspects, and Informatics in Nursing and work as a Clinical Instructor in the Capstone area at UTA.
DR. KRISTINE MORRIS
Registered Nurse; Texas Woman's University
Kristine Morris is a registered nurse and nurse educator. She currently serves as the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs at Texas Woman’s University’s Denton campus. Her service revolves around the identification of barriers and bridges to nursing student success, particularly among students from minoritized racial/ethnic groups in the U.S.

DR. NGAN HUANG
Bioengineer; Stanford University
Ngan F. Huang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University and Principal Investigator at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. Dr. Huang completed her BS in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by a PhD in bioengineering from the University of California Berkeley & University of California San Francisco Joint Program in Bioengineering. Her laboratory investigates the interactions between stem cells and extracellular matrix microenvironment for engineering cardiovascular tissues to treat cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases.
MR. NICHOLAS CHO
Medical Student; UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program
Nick Cho is currently a PhD1 student in the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program. His current research as a Bioengineering PhD student is identifying MRI biomarkers in patients with brain tumors. Before going to UCLA, Nick grew up in Glen Rock, NJ just outside of New York City, and went to Columbia University and majored in Biomedical Engineering. Outside of school, Nick loves going to rock and jazz concerts, eating spicy food, and going on bike rides.
MR. BRYCE BAJAR
Medical Student; David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Mr. Bryce Bajar grew up in San Jose, CA and attended Stanford University for college, where he majored in Bioengineering. During his undergraduate studies he became interested in both science and medicine. He joined the joint MD/PhD program at UCLA and finished his PhD in neuroscience last year. His goal is to become a clinician-scientist, where he can spend some of his time doing laboratory research and some of his time caring for patients.
Ms. Shivani Lakkaraju is a MD-PhD student at the UCSD MSTP. She is in her first year of medical school and her research interests include gene therapies for muscle diseases, while her clinical interests include clinical genetics, rare diseases, and disability advocacy. She love trying new foods and reading !

Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) Student; University of California, San Diego
DR. USMAN AHMAD
Postdoctoral Research Fellow; Stanford University
Dr. Ahmad is currently a postdoctoral research fellow under the mentorship of Prof. George Poultsides in the Section of Surgical Oncology at Stanford University. In addition, he engages in basic scientific inquiry in tumor immunology under Prof. Amanda Kirane. He entered his current position after completing 2 years of general surgical training at Stanford University and the University of Colorado.
PA EMILY TALMICH
Surgery Physician Assistant; Duke University
PA Talmich received her bachelors in Sports Medicine and masters in neurobiology from Colorado State University. She then completed PA school at Duke University in 2011 before moving to Boston to work with the general surgery team and subspecialties at Brigham and Women's Hospital. From there she moved to University of Michigan where she operated with the urology team as a their first robotic bedside PA before joining Keck Medical Center of USC with the thoracic team before transitioning to become the first robotic bedside PA at Keck.
MS. SUZANNE ABREU
Dentistry; NYU College of Dentistry
Suzanne attended Smith College where she majored in Chemistry. After graduating in 2017, she took a gap year where she served as a Blue Engine Teaching Assistant for Americorps. Suzanne has a passion for helping underrepresented minorities obtain access to quality education and healthcare. After her gap year, she began her journey at NYU College of Dentistry where she is currently completing her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with a certificate in public health. Suzanne will be continuing her dental journey next year as an orthodontic resident and is looking forward to becoming an orthodontist!
DR. REBECCA WOO
Psychiatrist/Physician; Emory University
Dr. Rebecca Woo has a long-standing interest in women's health. As a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University), she worked with the Salvation Army St. Vincent DePaul homeless clinic to establish a women's clinic. In 2015, Dr. Woo began the process of transitioning to psychiatry. As a psychiatry resident, Dr. Woo continued her goal of providing health care to women. Working with Dr. Richard Camino-Gaztambide, Dr. Woo developed a women's mental health clinic within the residency program. She helped develop a new resident didactic curriculum, and collaborated with Dr. Chelsea Carson to transition the medical student psychiatry clerkship.Over the course of her training, Dr. Woo was mentored by Dr. Toby Goldsmith at Emory University. Dr. Woo has since joined Dr. Goldsmith in providing mental health care to women in Atlanta. As part of the PEACE for Moms program, Dr. Woo and Dr. Goldsmith provide perinatal psychiatric consultations to doctors across the state of Georgia.
PA LETICIA BLAND
Physician Assistant, Faculty - Assistant Professor and Admissions Chair; UT Health at San Antonio

PA Leticia Bland joined the USAF upon graduation. She is a 2002 Air Force graduate of the Interservice Physician Assistant Program; awarded her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Nebraska. She has over 18 years of clinical experience in Primary Care, Acute Care, Trauma, and Emergency Medicine. In 2016 she joined the faculty in the Department of PA Studies at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas as an Assistant Professor/Clinical and Admissions Chair. She is working to strengthen her areas of interest in promoting diversity and inclusion, health equity, global and interprofessional education, community service learning, and faculty development. In 2018, she achieved a Doctorate in Health Sciences.
DR. LINA D'ORAZIO
Neuropsychologist and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology; Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) Department of Neurology
Dr. D’Orazio founded and directs the USC Cultural Neuropsychology Program which provides research and services designed to understand and assess how cultural contexts shape behavioral/cognitive outcomes across the diversity spectrum. Dr. D’Orazio also works as a clinical and equity/diversity consultant for research across the medical school and in various consortia. Dr. D'Orazio earned a fellowship-funded doctorate in clinical psychology, that included two consecutive American Psychological Association Minority Fellowships. Dr. D’Orazio has authored numerous publications in cultural neuropsychology and in psychosocial adjustment to chronic illness among Latinx/e communities.

When and where will the conference be held?
A. The conference will be hosted on April 23rd and 24th with all panels being held virtually over Zoom.
What time zones are HCCON operating off of?
A. HCCON is operating off of PDT. Please make sure to check all the event timings carefully.
How can I interact with other attendees during the conference?
A. You can interact with other conference attendees through the chat during the Zoom meeting and through the HCCON Discord community. Check out Conference Platform and Important Links for more information.
Can attendees ask any questions during the conference?
A. Yes! There will be an open Q&A session for attendees to ask direct questions to the panelists.
Must I attend all sessions?
A. No, you do not need to attend all sessions. You can attend whichever panels you are interested in or you can attend all of them.
